DESIGNER - DRIES VAN NOTEN

Dries Van Noten is a belgian fashion designer.

"His style is said to be "eccentric", and fell out of favor during the long period of minimalistic fashion in the early 1990s, only to make a come back towards the mid-2000s."

Van Noten was born into a family of garment makers and traders. His father owned a menswear shop and his grandfather was a tailor. He graduated from the Antwerp Academy in 1980, and began his career in 1986, in the same year he presented his first menswear collection in London as part of the The Antwerp Six collective.

His brand doesn't offer haute couture, all of his designs are ready to wear. "'I'm a little naive but I don't like the idea of showing things that you don't sell in a store". I don't agree with what the designer said, because in my opinion a fashion designer or any other designer/artist should create in the first place for himself, just like a painter does, he doesn't paint the same painting 10 times, there is just only one, and it makes the piece of art/clothing unique.

I have chosen this designer because i like the fabric he uses in his designs, it's colourful but at the same time the colours are very calm and natural, the colours are combined harmoniously. I like that on his designs he uses glitter or a sparkly jewel to create a centre of attention.

Another reason why i liked his designs is that it seems like it's a combination of cultures.

In my opinion the details are very important, they make the clothing more interesting.

This clothing pieces can be found in the shops, as the designer makes only ready to wear collections. I think the ones that buy this clothes are the people that are interested in fashion.
