WORLDS COLLIDE

20 JANUARY 2015 JFFA WORLDS COLLIDE

Today i researched about The bank of england and black and decker, it was very hard to develop ideas, i couldn't find any connections between them, i have looked at some clothes made with metal and wire but it wasn't inspiring at all. Later Helmert check in groups our small change work in progress. Having an opportunity to see others works and ideas is very good and interesting. I can learn from the comments the tutor gave to my friends.

22 JANUARY 2015 JFFA WORLDS COLLIDE

Today i was struggling to fine ideas for this project, Helmert helped me and he said that i should research about The Old Lady of Threadneedle Street i developed some purse ideas, and i want to use fabric for this project.

27 JANUARY 2015 JFFA WORLDS COLLIDE

I didn't have time to finish my project on time, i was not happy with my final outcome, i am going tomorrow at the metal workshop to change the aspect of the purse, today i have spent my day in the metal workshop, and i made some metal attachment to the shoe accessory for the small change project.

i have finished the purse, and i like the final look, i have used an old skirt for the purse material, and an old necklace for the top part.

BESPOKE

24 MONDAY NOVEMBER 2014 JFFA BESPOKE

Today in class everyone showed their research and favourite designer, on workflow, it was good watching and listening to them because everyone had different reasons why they liked the designer that they've chosen. Because everyone observed different things than i did, and it somehow opened my eyes. I have found out that some really good designers are teaching at CSM at the BA courses. After this an artist came to CSM and he talked about his life and the decisions that he had made, the projects that he had. He talked about a very interesting project that he came up with called "30 things in 30 days" and evey day he was creating something new and posting on his blog, i really liked this idea of speed creating because i have observed that i have good ideas and outcomes when i am under pressure of time. He also mentioned that improvisation is the heart of creativity, which I think is true, as my ideas often are a combination of my research and the improvisation from different things, like playing with random fabrics or drawing something without thinking, etc.

After the talk, we were introduced to the Bespoke project, and immediately start researching at the library, we also got an interview paper to ask questions to our group mates and learn more about them. After an hour i had a paper full of information, i started to look for books that contain some key words that i had on my paper, but it wasn't very successful, so when i got home i researched on the internet, and the research was quite good, i think.

25 TUESDAY NOVEMBER 2014 JFFA BESPOKE

Today we started the day by having an introduction from Jane Francis about the jewellery course from LCF, it was an interesting introduction, and I liked the fact that they collaborate with the fashion students. After that I looked at some of their student's portfolios, it was nice and I saw a big range of different ideas in their works, but I don't think that the jewellery pathway suits me. And then I had my jewellery introduction and learned the name of the tools and how we can use it and for what. I continued my day trying to understand the project and what I was really expected to do. There was one thing I knew for sure, that I wanted to do something on the body. The tutor helped me understand what the project was about, and he did a sketch to show me where my starting point was and on what I had to concentrate more. I've put my research in my sketchbook and started developing some ideas. When I got home I did another research because I kinda new what I wanted to do.

27 THURSDAY NOVEMBER 2014 JFFA BESPOKE

Today was about model making, i have spend my day trying to make something that looks like my drawings, my first idea was to make a protective jungle for bam, using the delicate structure from the palm leaves, and i kinda managed to make it from fire am paper, but then it wasn't as interesting as i thought it would be, so i added another "structure" too, it was okay this time but still i felt like something was missing, so i thought that maybe i should put green fabric between the body and the structure, so it would look like some how a cage, like no one could get in there, and Bam was safe. After class i stayed to make other models, as i feel that my ideas come to me when i am randomly doing something. I made a hole into a cardboard and put it on a mannequin and then i started weaving some paper straws, and i had this idea of dead jungle hanging around the body, like caring around and don't wanting to let go of it, some how like Bam is holding on to her family. I did some sketches and it was all for today.

1 DECEMBER 2014 JFFA BESPOKE

Today Benjamin showed us the basic knowledge that we should know about shoe making, it was a very interesting process, how all this flat materials can be shaped into a shoe. After that i went to the metal workshop and started making the leaf structure, i have been before in the meal workshop but i didn't really know how to use the tools that were right for my project and i started to experiment and soon my leaf was ready. Learning through my making process was interesting and good, because i have learned from my mistakes.

2 DECEMBER 2014 JFFA BESPOKE

Today i have spent my whole day in the metal workshop, i made quickly the other leaf, and i was impressed that i have managed to make them quite symmetrical, and then i had to connect them, i had a problem while i was trying to connect them, i couldn't make them to stay straight, i have lost a lot of time on this, and finally i did a belt on which i put the leaves, at least they were staying. When i got home i started to wrap wool around the metal, because i didn't like that metallic look.

4 DECEMBER 2014 JFFA BESPOKE

Today was the presentation day. I?ve learned that the materials that we have used in our final outcome is important, and that we should experiment and find the right material fits the best to our work. I also saw my class mates works. It was good to see others works and sketchbooks so i could see clearly where my week points are. Some sketchbooks had an interesting material  and drawing combination which was very inspirational. There were many good idea development and drawing techniques in sketchbooks which I learned and of course I could improve mine. My sketchbook wasn't good because i didn't spent enough time on it as i should've have.

MEMORIES CONTAINED

6 JANUARY 2015 JFFA MEMORIES CONTAINED

Today we were introduced to a new project called Memories Contained. We brainstormed words about memories and about containment. Some of my favourite words about memories were photograph, letters, poems, smell, deja vu, ballet, travel, and some of my favourites about containment were cages, journal, clock, poetry, mind, borders, music. While brainstorming, I was thinking about some of the memories that were very dear to me, the one that i choose to develop as the principal subject of my project was the memory of my ballet classes. The same day Helmert helped us to decide what memory is the best to use, and so i asked if i can use my memory of my twin sister because she is the first memory that i have, and almost all of my memories i share with her.

8 JANUARY 2015 JFFA MEMORIES CONTAINED

For today i have asked my mom to send some photos of me and my sister, i have researched about the bond of twins, and also i have observed that this special bond have only human twins, and so i tried to show that by illustrating different animals that are being born together and then continue their lives apart. The rest of the day Karla introduced us to the wax casting technique. It was very interesting as i have sound out how many things are made by using this technique.

12 JANUARY 2015 JFFA MEMORIES CONTAINED

My initial idea was to express the twin bond in someway, but after talking to Nicola, she advised me that i have to research more and find a memory that is just mine and not something that all the twins have, so today i put down on the paper some personal memories of me and my sister. The rest of the day Karla showed us how to solder, i already knew that as my father is a jewellery designer, but i had the chance to se each step one more time, and well explained.

13 JANUARY 2015 JFFA MEMORIES CONTAINED

Today was all about making, my final design was a shoulder piece that is connected to another shoulder piece, so i would need my sister to be able to wear that. When i was little me and my sister invented a game and we were chatting butterflies. so  i made today a little cage for one the shoulder and the other one the base where i wanted to put the butterfly. But after that i talked to Helmert and he said that i should make something similar as my memory is based on my twin. I am not pleased with my final idea and  i really don't like working on a small scale, it annoys me. So today i will develop some other ideas using the cage, but on a bigger scale.

15 JANUARY 2015 JFFA MEMORIES CONTAINED

I showed today to Helmert my new idea, a cage on the body, he said that i don't have time to make it, but i insisted that i can. So first i made a model from wire, and convoked him that i was a good idea, and that i used the metal workshop to make the cade, and i did managed to finish, i am going to put black and red yarn on the cage to show the memory and the bond.download.php?file=931583&embedded=1&textbox=930406

SMALL CHANGE

8 DECEMBER 2014 JFFA SMALL CHANGE

Today we were introduced to our new project Small Change. This project is about sustainability/environmental issues. As designers, we have to be aware of environmental situations, and be sensible with the resources and materials that we are using. I have discovered new ways of using materials, which can be found in our daily life. I have learned about artists who managed to create jewellery and fashion accessories with recycled and up cycled materials.

9 TUESDAY DECEMBER 2014 JFFA SMALL CHANGE

Today's highlight was the library talk, i was introduced to a range of different sustainable materials and also i was shown some videos of how some of it was made. Another interesting thing that i have learned today was a talk about copyright, and the links that we can use for our projects. At the end of the day the had 1 hour project and we had to make a accessory using newspaper, i quite liked having a deadline and working under pressure.

11 THURSDAY DECEMBER 2014 JFFA SMALL CHANGE

Today was all about making, Benjamin introduced us to a one day project in which he showed us how to make a hat just using paper, he came up with this idea when he bought a similar cap made from coca cola cans. We have spent the day making the hat using some patterns. After we all finished making the hat, we were asked to customise it. The pressure was quite big as i had no idea what to do, and i just started to add more threads to the hat. I think i like my final hat, i tried to keep it quite simple and using just one colour.

5 JANUARY 2015 JFFA SMALL CHANGE

Durring my christmas holiday i went back home in Romania, there i got the material i wanted to work with. I went to a fashion designer and i asked if she could give we the fabric remains that she was going to throw away, and i brought back with me the fabric pieces. I decided that beside the sustainable material i want a story for my project, when i was home i researched about a romanian tradition where people kill bears to make costumes and also i was interested in the story behind the tradition. So today i showed Nicola my research and some ideas and she advised me to put my fabrics in season catergories.
